Marist Penshurst is a typical Marist school ... steeped in the value of sport. Penshurst has produced some great sportsmen from "Kangaroo" John Greaves (who still holds our Under 12 100m athletics record) to current first grader Daryl Millard. There are also many ex-students playing grade cricket across Sydney, especially for St George.
The college is a member of the Christian Brothers Sports Association (CBSA) and has been so since 1986. It is a very dynamic organisation that provides a wide range of representative sports, including...
As a member of the Combined Catholic Colleges (CCC), all of our students the chance to progress to higher representative honours, where they can compete in state and national competitions. However, we don't just limit our students to the opportunities of these official competitions. We also participate in a number of sports comps run by other organisations. and compete in further soccer, league, basketball and cricket. 2006-7 saw Marist College Penshurst win the very prestigious NSW CCC Berg Shield - a competition across the state for U/15 cricketers. this included victories over Aquinas Menai, Patrician Brothers Fairfield, Christian Brothers Lewisham, St Dominic's Kingswood, Xavier College Albury and St Paul's Kempsey in the final. A truly outstanding effort. Another victory so far in 2007 has been out Year 7s winning both tiers of the Shawn Trimmins trophy run by St George DRLFC. 2007 CBSA victories to date include victory in both U/14 and Opens Cricket and Cross Country. The college also offers training facilities for our students ... 2 synthetic cricket nets, 2 gymnasiums, volleyball court, basketball court and a well-grassed oval. Marist Penshurst also has a very well organised sporting programme for those boys not representing their school at any particular time. This includes squash, tennis, indoor cricket, aerobics, golf, lawn bowls, water sports, house sport competitions and in 2008 we will have the use of Hurstville Aquatic Centre. We also hold annual athletics and swimming carnivals. Attendance at these carnivals is compulsory even if not competing. To sum up, Marist College Penshurst has an excellent sporting tradition and the constant stream of boys continue to add to the spirit that has become an integral part of the school. This is why we enjoy so much continuing success in the sporting arena. |
